For me, this time of year is usually pretty busy with planning and diving head-first back into work and routines. But this year I’m intentionally stepping slowly into 2023. I’m in no rush to take down Christmas decorations, and instead of overcommitting to social plans I’m planning actual days of rest this month.
This need for simplicity and comfort is reflected in the work I hope to do this winter. For years I’ve been photographing newborns in their homes, and recently I’ve been capturing families of all ages and phases in the comfort of their own home. There are one hundred reasons why I love photographing families at home, but here are just a few!
Comfort
Your home is likely where you and your kids are the most comfortable. You can be yourselves and connect on a deeper level. There are less distractions than being a new, outdoor place and the kids can take breaks! You’ve probably also put a lot of time not just into the look of your home, but how it feels. That warm, cozy vibe is felt during your session and in the framed photos that seamlessly blend into the design of your home.
Light
In-home sessions take place mid-morning when the sun is high enough to flood your home with beautiful light, even on a cloudy day or if you don’t have many windows. I enjoy working in many lighting environments but the even, natural light coming in from windows is my favorite. Whether it’s a large room or a little nook & cranny, I love finding spots in your home with neutral walls and window light. It goes with my vision and aesthetic and it helps everyone’s skin glow!
Convenience
Do I even need to mention how much more convenient it is to have your photographer come to you, rather than bring your entire family to an outdoor location?! Plus, the mid-morning time is so much more preferable for some families with young kids than the evening time when outdoor sessions take place.
Interested in booking?
Before your Spring and Summer calendars fill up with vacations and activities, I’d love to photograph your family during these slower months. After booking a session, we can chat more about how you want your family captured – maybe it’s casually lounging and reading in your living room, maybe it’s baking in the kitchen, or maybe it’s literally chasing your kids around!
