While I will always love New York City weddings, I know how hard it can be to find a spot in the city that doesn’t feel so claustrophobic. The city is wonderful if you want a glitzy and glamorous wedding. If you want something a little more romantic, however, you’re going to have to broaden your search. As a Hudson Valley wedding photographer, I have absolutely fallen in love with the Glenmere Mansion wedding venue, just 50 miles from the city. This Italian-inspired chateau features lush grounds that will give you that romantic garden party wedding you’ve always dreamed of!

The Glenmere Mansion wedding venue is a breathtaking manor that was built in 1911 by the top contemporary architects Carriere and Hastings. When the home was first built, it was designed to be a country retreat for Rober Goelet. Goelet had taken the time to find a place that offered the best views of Glenmere Lake. He also hired Beatrix Jones Farrand, the first major female landscape architect in the country, to build the gardens. Over the years, the manor was turned into a hotel and quickly began to receive international recognition. On top of its luxurious rooms, Glenmere provides its guests with walks in the serene gardens as well as some of the best views of the Catskills.

With Glenmere Mansion, you will feel as though you’re walking straight into the world of Bridgerton.

“It was the only venue we saw. It was gorgeous - the gardens, the lawns. You feel like you’re somewhere else, like in the European countryside.”

The Gardens

The gardens will provide you with a sophisticated space to sip cocktails between the wedding and the reception.

Ceremony Spaces

The hotel provides you with several outdoor ceremony locations throughout the expansive lawn. Some couples choose to set their ceremony up near the edge of their property with the verdant woods serving as a backdrop. Others choose to use the outdoor pergola built in the center of the gardens. With this second option, you will be on a small stage surrounded by lush landscaping. They also have several indoor spaces for smaller ceremonies.

Reception Locations

Glenmere Mansion also offers several outdoor spots for your wedding reception. The patio alongside the house is ideal for small and intimate parties. You can also choose to have a reception on the lawn with a tent over the reception area. If you would prefer an indoor reception, there are several small and stately rooms as well as the expansive Barn. The latter is a newer addition and features plenty of room to party!

Room For Everyone

Glenmere Mansion was made for some of the grandest wedding celebrations around! With this venue, you will be able to hold up to 350 guests.

Getting Ready Spaces

The mansion has several spaces that they reserve for you to get ready. You will have a large suite with a private bathroom and comfy furniture so you can relax as you put on the finishing touches. There are large floor-to-ceiling windows that will let in plenty of light for capturing portraits during this time.

The Barn is a completely blank slate with white cathedral ceilings, white walls, and a concrete floor.

The suite features floor-to-ceiling windows that allow ample natural light to filter in, which is perfect for taking portraits.

I suggest scheduling your ceremony start time for 2 hours before sunset. This allows for dreamy, soft light during your ceremony and for your guests to experience the beautiful view at sunset during cocktail hour.

There are multiple locations at Glenmere Mansion that are beautiful for photos. The front of the house provides you with an accessible space for group and family portraits, strolling the nooks of the property are perfect for bride & groom photos, and the open field in front of the barn is stunning for sunset portraits!

Yes! The staff will advise you on where you can use sparklers for your send-off. You can also ask them about their fireworks that they break out for private events. I love capturing sparkler exits! Timing and logistics is something we can talk about on a consultation call.

When working with me, I'll provide a detailed photography timeline. This includes roughly 30-45 minutes of bride & groom portraits, sprinkled throughout the day. I prefer to break it up so you can enjoy your day and we get a variety of photos!
