Colleen and James have been inseparable since the day they met. She said she hasn’t stopped smiling or laughing since the day she met him, even through the most difficult of times.
James knew that Colleen had two wishes for his proposal: that her family be present, and that there would be photos taken of the moment. She was really sure she would see it coming, but he managed to completely surprise her anyway! Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and they had gathered for the annual turkey cook off (complete with voting and prizes). At exactly 1:00 PM on that Thanksgiving Day, James proposed to Colleen in the house she grew up in, with her whole family around them, all taking photos. She said he could not have picked a better way to ask her to marry him.
Colleen is known for loving everything nautical, especially anchors and anything navy blue! James loves collecting antiques and he’s a big history guy! Of course they wanted to get married at a venue that included all of those things, and The Estate at Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, New York was like a dream come true. It’s right near the water, small and cozy, historic, and the perfect place for a nautical theme!! As a sweet nod to their history, they chose to get married on their four-year anniversary.
Colleen is a very talented artist and even has her own shop where she sells custom signs and other handmade gifts. So of course she had a hand in many of the details on their wedding day – from their ring box, to their signage, to (my favorite) the tiny little “message in a bottle”escort cards!
Their song choices for the day were also a big highlight for me. I love music and I love seeing what couples choose for the traditional elements of their day, so when Colleen and James told me they’d have the same processional song as I had at my wedding (All You Need is Love by The Beatles), the same introduction song (September by Earth Wind and Fire – and their wedding was actually on the 21st night of September!), AND the same Father/Daughter Song (Father & Daughter by Paul Simon), I knew we were a match made in Heaven!
James and Colleen, it was an honor to photograph your beautiful wedding day. I wish you a lifetime of happiness together, and congratulations on your soon-to-arrive baby!!
