Back in September, Matt and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary and much like our Holiday card last year {and I imagine what will be for all future family photos} I strongly coerced and bribed my husband with beer into doing a photo shoot. We were all set to go away for a relaxing weekend at our family house in Otis, MA when I started to envision this celebratory shoot. Since our wedding one year ago, we’ve traveled all over the country ending at our new home back in New York, further developed Nicole D Photography even getting Matt behind the camera {as evidenced in the photos of me below}, and have embraced the craft beer culture with home brewing and touring breweries nationwide. I wanted this weekend and the shoot to celebrate our love + all of these things we’ve experienced in our first year of marriage! When I think of our wedding day, I see it as an actual place that I miss and want to travel back to bringing everyone along with me! So with the help of some family, I pulled in a lot of pieces from that day for this shoot… my crazily-talented cousin created the chalkboard which helped to set the tone, my aunt who had handwritten our invitations wrote out the EE Cummings poem which was a reading during our ceremony, and my mom coordinated with our caterer Stone Soup Food Company to recreate the beautiful anniversary cake. I repurposed some of the details from our wedding decorations and purchased some new things from Anthropologie {hands-down my favorite store}, picked flowers from the property and borrowed the furniture found in our family’s house. I promised Matt that I wouldn’t do anything this elaborate for a while, but “a while” is a relative term… right?
