At-home sessions are my favorite way to photograph a family – as the beautiful, silly, simple moments of your story naturally unfold. As a Greenwich photographer, I believe that you should not only have photos of your children but with your children. You should be able to see all the good you’re doing and know your family sees it, too.
I believe photographing you with your people in your space is the most honest and thoughtful way to tell your story. Specializing in at-home lifestyle family photography, I see the value in both traditional (think, smiling at the camera) and documentary (think, interacting with each other). I approach sessions with a calm and thoughtful intention – always capturing you connecting with your family. You’re not hiring me simply to check off “annual family photos” on your to-do list – we’re building a relationship together and creating a little magic along the way.
In this blog, we’ll talk about what an at-home session is and why I love it as a Greenwich photographer, and then cover some FAQs about the session! But first, let’s chat about why moms deserve photos too.
As a mom myself, I’m dedicated to shining a light on motherhood through thoughtful and honest photos. Your kids are growing, and you are in the thick of mothering. You are the heartbeat of your family, and your motherhood journey is worth capturing! Allow yourself to see all that you’re creating beyond the day-to-day, to see yourself the way your family does. We’re not seeking perfection.
I will help you get there by giving you photos that shine a light on the beauty in the mundane, the magic in the ordinary. and helping you see yourself the way your family sees you. I’m not seeking perfection – I’m here for the beauty in the mundane, the magic in the ordinary. That is why I offer lifestyle newborn and family sessions in the comfort of your home.
Your home is likely where you and your kids are the most comfortable. You can be yourselves and connect on a deeper level. There are fewer distractions than in a new, outdoor place, and the kids can take breaks! You’ve probably also put a lot of time not just into the look of your home but how it feels. That warm, cozy vibe is felt during your session and in the framed photos that seamlessly blend into the design of your home.
In-home sessions take place mid-morning when the sun is high enough to flood your home with beautiful light, even on a cloudy day or if you don’t have many windows. I enjoy working in many lighting environments, but the even and natural light coming in from windows is my favorite. Whether it’s a large room or a little nook & cranny, I love finding spots in your home with neutral walls and window light. It goes with my vision and aesthetic, and it helps everyone’s skin glow!
Do I even need to mention how much more convenient it is to have your photographer come to you rather than bring your entire family to an outdoor location?! Plus, the mid-morning time is so much more preferable for some families with young kids than the evening time when outdoor sessions take place.
When you work with me, I want your session to be as stress-free as possible. I’ll prepare you with a guide on what to expect, wardrobe tips, how to get your home ready, and so much more. Our time together doesn’t end with the last click of my shutter – after the session, I’ll guide you through the process of turning those digital files into printed goods to display around your home.
Before your family photo session, we’ll talk about your family’s style, what makes you unique, and what you love to do together. The session will be loosely planned around some of your favorite activities, yet it will be unscripted and unposed. This is my favorite way to capture a family – as the beautiful, silly, simple moments of your story naturally unfold.
I strive to capture the love and authenticity of your family in an honest, timeless, and organic manner. With a non-invasive approach, I work to make sure you are comfortable and capture your connection with your children. I specialize in at-home lifestyle photography, and I understand how to find the best natural light in and around your home. I have patience and flexibility in working with kiddos of all ages and I value both traditional (think, smile at the camera) and documentary (think, interact with each other) photography.
At-home sessions are scheduled for mid-morning and take place in your house and yard. The timing is intentional and based on lighting, my aesthetic that has likely already resonated with you, and my experience of working with children. I know it can be a little worrisome planning around everybody’s schedules and moods, but I have tips to guide you through this!
My doors are open to families of all backgrounds, ethnicities, preferences, and abilities! I work best with families who aren’t as concerned about getting a perfectly posed shot as they are about letting their session naturally flow and trusting me to capture their beautiful, silly, simple moments as they unfold before my camera. Yes, I aim to capture a few traditional photos of you all smiling toward me, but the overall goal is for you to have fun, embrace imperfections, and connect with your family!
Please don’t worry that your house has to be Pinterest-worthy. I’m not seeking perfection – I’m here for the beauty in the mundane, the magic in the ordinary. As long as you have at least one window with natural light and a house full of love, we will create beautiful photos together.
I know how you’re feeling, and it’s natural. Please know that my sessions are very play-based and cater to each child’s mood and temperament. Instead of telling your child, they have to have their picture taken – make it a fun adventure… “we’re going to pick flowers… we’re building a fort and reading your favorite book!” I’ll aim to get a few traditional photos of your family, but I’ll otherwise let kids be themselves. Whether a little shy or very energetic, I’ll work and play with the kids in their comfort zone.
The simple answer is no. My sessions are custom and catered to your family. I have some go-to directions I like to give, but I do not have a specific list of poses, nor will I try to recreate mine or another photographer’s pose. It disrupts the creative flow and the natural tendencies of your family. Trust me to capture the beautiful, simple, silly moments of your family as they naturally unfold before my camera!
Leave them out! Just kidding, but not really… You can come alone with your kids or tell your partner they only need to be in a handful of photos and can then go for a walk. I work with just mamas and their children all the time – give this gift of photos to yourself! Now is the time to see yourself as your children see you. It will be an experience you will cherish today and treasure years from now. Please do not include partners who wish not to be present.
Before your Spring and Summer calendars fill up with vacations and activities, I’d love to photograph your family during these slower months. After booking a session, we can chat more about how you want your family captured – maybe it’s casually lounging and reading in your living room, maybe it’s baking in the kitchen, or maybe it’s literally chasing your kids around! To find out more details, reach out to me, and let’s start the conversation! While you’re here, be sure to check out more blog posts below!
